Sister Cities Teacher Exchange 2005
Hot Springs Teachers are welcomed with open arms in Hanamaki, Japan
Ms. Debbie Rushing, computer technology instructor at Hot Springs Middle School and Mrs. Paula Bettis, music specialist at Park International Baccalaureate Magnet School and Langston Aerospace and Environmental Studies Magnet, all in Hot Springs, AR, recently spent 8 days visiting Hot Springs' sister city, Hanamaki, Iwate Prefecture, Japan. They visited four schools - Hanamaki Junior High, Hanamaki Elementary, Sasama Daini Elementary and Yasawa Junior High School. They were given a warm reception by the Hanamaki Board of Education, Administration, Mayor Wantanabe and the International Association and Staff.
The following pictures were taken by Ichiro Fudai of Hanamaki, Debbie Rushing of Hot Springs, Hiroaki Fujinuma of Hanamaki and Paula Bettis of Hot Springs. Comments were added by Ms. Bettis.
When leaving Hanamaki, both teachers expressed how the trip meant a tremendous amount to each. Japan would no longer ever be a spot on a map or a picture in a book. It is a treasure to be kept in their hearts.
